On March 20th, 2026, Dr. Heidi Keeler and Jodie Boswell presented at the Sigma Creating Healthy Work Environment conference in Washington DC. Dr. Keeler and Jodie presented to a group of nurse leaders and educators the title of the presentation was “Creating a Safe and Welcoming Environment for New Nurses Through Effective Preceptor Training.” The presentation explored the critical role of nurse preceptors in fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for new nurses. It emphasized the importance of structured preceptor training to ensure successful integration of new nurses into clinical settings. The presentation explored the Ulrich Precepting Model, focusing on three key roles: Facilitator, Protector, and Socialization Agent. The content highlights the challenges new nurses face and outlines strategies for preceptors to utilize. There were great learnings shared on preceptorships from across the country.

This conversation includes the perspectives of Mindy Olberding, MSN, RN, Chief Nurse Officer, and Ryan Stover, Chief Financial Officer, who share insights on the evolving impact of preceptors on the current nursing workforce.
